Exercise description

Purpose: Asymmetrical kneeling position with back bend Performance instructions: Get into dog pose with your head down. Raise your right leg and position your right foot between your hands. The right knee is at the ankle and the thigh is parallel to the floor. Bend the left knee and rest it on the floor - roll up a mat or place a blanket under the knee to avoid pressure on the knee patella. Press the back of the left foot to the floor. Lower your hips - on the front leg side your groin is deep into your body and on the back leg side your hip is straight. Feel the thigh and groin of the back leg stretch and the buttock of the front leg stretch. Resting your hands on your fingertips by your front foot, push off the floor lifting your torso upwards. Do not lift your hips. Lean towards the back leg, strengthen and stabilise both lower limbs. Lift the upper limbs overhead. Lower shoulders, shoulder blades, make space at sides of neck, straighten elbows, withdraw arms towards back of head. Chin slightly lowered, throat relaxed, neck free of tension. With inhalation, lengthen the front of the torso. With an exhalation, settle lower with the hips and deepen the bend in the extended spine. Place your palms on the floor. Bend the front knee to the side, return to dog with the head down. Repeat the position to the other side.
