An alternative solution in the diet that supports sustainable development is choosing plant-based substitutes and increasing the number of vegetarian dishes in the menu. Providing more vegetables in the diet is beneficial for health. Additionally, by increasing the amount of vegetables in the diet, we act pro-ecologically because meat production consumes a larger amount of water than plant production. In the case of raising animals for food purposes, a huge amount of greenhouse gases is also produced, while plant production generates virtually none. The final argument for increasing vegetable consumption in the diet is the lack of necessity for deforestation to clear land for crops. By limiting meat consumption and increasing the intake of vegetables, fruits, whole grains, and legumes, we can contribute to reducing our ecological footprint. Ecological awareness in daily life can also be supported by saving water and energy consumption. Switching to energy-efficient light sources, using natural light during the day, and turning off unused electrical devices contribute to the reduction of the ecological footprint. Another important topic is limiting the consumption of water, which is becoming scarcer on Earth year by year. Water quality is decreasing due to vast amounts of pollution and requires more filtration processes before it is fit for consumption. Shortening shower times, using an energy-efficient dishwasher, and collecting rainwater that can be used later to water garden plants are just a few examples of ecological actions and creating good alternatives in daily conduct that support sustainable development. An important point on the list of solutions leading to increased ecological alternatives for use in one's routines is the choice of transportation. The most optimal and recommended solution is choosing walking or cycling as a means of communication. When it is necessary to cover a longer distance, it is advisable to use public transport, which has an impact on reducing greenhouse gas emissions. If the situation requires using a car, it is worth finding out if other people also need transport, making it possible to minimize the number of vehicles involved in transporting people. Ecological alternatives in diet and daily life are of significant importance for environmental protection. By choosing organic food, a plant-based diet, making responsible purchases, saving energy and water, and using sustainable transport, we can contribute to reducing our ecological footprint and creating a more sustainable environment. Taking seemingly simple actions that contribute to environmental protection in a routine manner can also inspire others to take conscious actions for sustainable development.
